Istrian Bishop
(Veli Ježenj, 1812. - Trieste, 1882.)
As a poor rural child, due to diligence and intelligence, he attended a Karlovac gymnasium and later continued his education in Viennese Augustineum where he studied theology. He fought for the equality of Croatian language with the Italian. He founded schools and shared a student scholarship. He printed the prayer "Father, be your will", which was extremely important for civic education. His figure is on a banknote of 10 kuna. The university in Pula carries his name.
