The Tinjan Valley (Draga)

The Tinjan Valley (Draga) is only a part of the longest valley in Croatia – Lim valley, which is 40 kilometres long, along with the Lim bay. It is assumed that the whole Lim valley was a river bed in the past, most likely for river Pazinčica, which changed its course towards the Pazin abyss as a consequence of the elevation of the Orljak hill.
Under Tinjan, the valley abruptly changes its direction and extends towards the south, while near Dvigrad it stretches in the west and continues to the coast of Lim. The elevated plains from both sides of the valley are over 300 metres high, while in the base there are numerous fertile plains on red Istrian land called terra rossa or red soil.
